Pain and injuries can affect all walks of life. When assessing your problem area, our goal is to get to the root cause of your issues. Missing the big picture is often why patients fail to improve with rehab.  We take a global approach to assessment, and an individualized approach to treatment. Traditional physical therapy may only focus on one body part, but we treat the whole person to get results that last!

COMMON CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Physical Therapy

Back Pain

Low back pain affects 80% of the population at some point in their lives. Although it tends to resolve on its own, physical therapy can drastically speed up the healing process and reduce pain. Back pain can be severe but does not usually require medication or surgery. Back pain can be caused by muscle weakness, repetitive motions, prolonged positions/posture, and trauma.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse  ~Muscle Spasm  ~ Disk Injury   ~Spondylolysis

  • Normal Aging  ~ Stenosis   Degenerative Disc Disease   Spondylosis   Arthritis

  • Nerve Entrapment  ~  Radiculopathy   Sciatica

  • Acute Disc Injury

Neck Pain

Neck pain can significantly limit a person's ability to work, exercise, sleep and concentrate. Neck pain can include headaches, pain or other symptoms into the shoulders, arms, and hands. Although neck pain can be severe, it does not usually require medication or surgery. Neck pain can be caused by muscle weakness, repetitive motions, prolonged positions/posture, and trauma.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse  ~Muscle Spasm  ~ Disk Injury   ~Spondylolysis

  • Normal Aging  ~ Stenosis   Degenerative Disc Disease   Spondylosis   Arthritis

  • Nerve Entrapment  ~  Radiculopathy

  • Acute Disc Injury

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can significantly limit a person's ability to work, exercise, sleep, dress, and bathe. Shoulder pain is usually caused by overuse with poor body mechanics or muscle weakness. The upper back and neck are almost always treated in conjunction with the shoulder due to the very close relationship. Posture, lifting mechanics, and sleeping position can all play a role in shoulder pain and dysfunction.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse or Acute Injury  ~  Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy/Tear  ~  Labral Tear  ~  Bicep Tendinopathy/Tear  ~  Arthritis  ~  Bursitis  ~  Impingement  ~  AC joint arthritis or separation  ~  Dislocation

  • Post Operative Procedures  ~  Rotator Cuff Repair  ~  Bicep Tenodesis  ~  Labral Repair  ~  Total Shoulder Replacement

Elbow Pain

Elbow pain can significantly limit a person's ability to work and exercise.  Elbow pain is usually caused by overuse with poor body mechanics or trauma. Pain referral from the neck and shoulder are very common and are almost always treated in conjunction with the elbow due to the very close relationship. Posture and lifting mechanics can play a role in elbow pain and dysfunction as well.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse or Acute Injury  ~  Later Epicondylitis (Tennis elbow) ~  Medial Epicondylitis (Golfers elbow)  ~  Bicep Tendinopathy/Tear  ~  Elbow Dislocations

Hip Pain

Hip pain can significantly limit a person's ability to walk, exercise, sleep, and dress. Hip pain is less likely to happen due to an acute injury but can happen in sports with pivoting and large ranges of motion. It is usually caused by overuse with poor body mechanics or muscle weakness. The back is almost always treated in conjunction with the hip due to the very close relationship. Repetitive motions and prolonged positions/posture can contribute to hip pain and dysfunction.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse or Acute Injury  ~  Hip Flexor or Glute tendinitis  ~  Labral Tear  ~  Hip Impingement  ~  Arthritis  ~  Bursitis  ~

  • Post Operative Procedures  ~  Hip Labral Repair  ~  Osteotomy for bone overgrowth (CAM and Pincer Lesion) ~  Total Hip Replacement  ~  PAO for hip dysplasia

Knee Pain

Knee pain can significantly limit a person's ability to walk, exercise, sleep, and work. The knee has complex ligaments that help support the knee during gait and sporting activity.  The knee can be injured during these activities and also with overuse and poor body mechanics. The hip and ankle are often treated in conjunction with the knee due to the very close relationship.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse Injury   ~   Patellar Tendinitis (jumpers knee) ~  Quadriceps Tendinitis ~  Arthritis  ~  Bursitis  ~ Meniscus Tear

  • Acute Injury  ~ MCL Tear, Hamstring or Quadriceps strain or tear, ACL/PCL tear, Meniscus tear

  • Post Operative Procedures  ~  ACL reconstruction ~  Meniscectomy/Meniscus repair~  Knee Scope  ~  Total Knee Replacement

Ankle & Foot Pain

Ankle injuries can significantly limit a person's ability to walk, exercise, and work. Ankle sprains are often caused by sporting activities or running on uneven surfaces or landing a jump incorrectly. Old ankle injuries are one of the largest risks for new injuries. Therefore, getting treatment for even the most trivial ankle injury can be critical. Foot pain can be cause by overuse, incorrect footwear or even referred pain from the back. A thorough assessment will help determine the root cause of the ankle or foot pain.

Common conditions include:

  • Overuse Injury   ~   Posterior Tibialis Tendinitis  ~  Plantar Fasciitis ~ Achilles Tendinitis  ~  Bunion

  • Acute Injury  ~ Ankle Sprain or Fracture  ~  Turf Toe  ~  Cuboid Syndrome

  • Post Operative Procedures  ~  ligament reconstruction ~ Bunionectomy ~ Pins or plates

Other Conditions

Hypermobility Spectrum, including EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome)  ~   Hypermobility can affect many people in many ways. It can range from mild to very extreme. People with hypermobility tend to have more elasticity in their connective tissues, which can affect joints, muscles and blood vessels. Individuals will have difficulty tolerating repetitive motions or prolonged positions. They may have aches and pains that don't fit with a normal "injury" and may have even been diagnosed with chronic pain or Fibromyalgia. Dr. Barre is high on the hypermobility spectrum as well and has taken a special interest in passing along her personal and professional expertise.

Pre and Postpartum  ~  As a mother of 2, Dr. Brigit Barre knows the importance of staying active during and after pregnancy. Pregnancy should not be treated as a "condition" but rather a stage in life. Most physical activities remain safe during pregnancy as long as there are no complications. Knowing how to continue moving safely can help prevent aches and pains.
