A Sports Certified Specialist has emergency medical training, including CPR, and can assist with sideline coverage for first aid. This includes emergency assessment of concussions, fractures, heat related illnesses, wounds, sprains/strains, neck and spinal injuries. As a medical professional who is trained in return to sport guidelines, an SCS can help decide if someone can safely continue their physical activity. They can also determine if someone needs more serious medical attention.  These services are similar to what an athletic trainer would provide. During a sporting event, participants may also want to receive physical therapy treatment before or after the event. This can include taping, sports massage, dry needling and other manual therapy.
